Stanford Avenue after the clean up 8-26-2023
On August 26 about twenty stakeholders turned out to clear up illegally dumped items from along Stanford Avenue under the 105 freeway and put them into two large nearby dumpsters. The clean up was organized by the HGNNC and the dumpsters were provided by Council District 15. The Office of Beautification-Department of Public Works provided the tools for the clean up.

I was briefed earlier today by the National Weather Service about the tropical storm’s trajectory. Based on the current forecast track, our region could see scattered thunderstorms overnight, with heavy rain and wind impacting Los Angeles tomorrow and Monday morning.

Tonight, our City’s Emergency Operations Center will be activated at Level 2 ahead of Hurricane Hilary making landfall. As we mobilize and prepare, Angelenos should stay safe and informed.
Stay Safe During the Storm
Avoid any unnecessary travel. If you do not need to be on the road please postpone all non-essential travel until the peak of the storm passes. Have your emergency kit and essential devices on hand and ensure that all your devices are charged. Call 911 if there is a life-threatening emergency.
Be Careful During Power Outages
Please take official weather warnings seriously. Prepare for potential widespread and unpredictable power outages. If your power goes out, report it at LADWP.com/Outages. Make sure you have a flashlight with extra batteries nearby. Do not use a candle as a light source as it poses a fire risk.

Report Damages and Request Assistance
The City of Los Angeles has made additional emergency trucks available at all times, citywide to respond to storm damage. Report storm impacts like roadway flooding or mudslides through LACity.gov/Myla311 or by calling 311.
Support for Unhoused Angelenos
The Mayor’s Office has worked to open temporary emergency shelters located near areas at risk of flooding and the City has been offering transportation to shelters as a part of outreach efforts. Additional shelter will open tomorrow. For those who are unable to move, provisions including tarps and emergency blankets are being provided.
The City’s emergency response departments will be on standby to assist those in life-threatening situations.

Extreme weather conditions are expected to impact LA County due to Hurricane Hilary. It’s predicted that Southern California will see heavy rainfall through early next week – with the most intense conditions occurring Sunday into Monday – as Hilary approaches, likely as a tropical storm. The Harbor Gateway North Neighborhood Council Board will hold its next Board meeting on Tues. August 8 at 7 pm at 555 W. Redondo Beach Blvd. in Room 185. The Board will appoint representatives to the Emergency Preparedness Alliance and Sustainability Alliance meetings, as well as two Budget Representatives who can become more involved in the City budget review that is done by the Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates.
The Board will also consider a letter of support for trees to be planted in the medians on both the north and south sides of Rosecrans Avenue and support for four council Files, including one in support of the Independent Redistricting commission which when formed, will consider adding possibly ten more City Council seats to the current 15 for better representation of residents. The Field Deputies for Council District 8 and Council District 15 will also make reports and be available to answer questions.

Qualified Replace Your Ride program applicants can receive up to $9,500 to replace their own older, high-polluting vehicle with a newer vehicle, upgrade to a hybrid or electric vehicle or an e-bike or an alternative transportation card. This program is available to vehicle owners residing within the South Coast AQMD Jurisdiction who meet the income and vehicle requirements.

After observing two-days-a-week outdoor watering restrictions for the past thirteen months, LADWP customers can begin watering outdoor landscapes for up to three-days-a-week. After experiencing a record snowpack, the return to the City’s Phase 2 Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance was approved and effective July 27, 2023.
The return to three-days-a-week watering means customers with street addresses ending in odd-numbers may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and customers with even-numbered street addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the evaporation rate is appreciably lower than during the middle of the day.
