There will be a Special Board meeting on Tues. December 1 at 7 p.m. with the Department of City Planning reviewing the current proposed updates to the Harbor Gateway Community Plan. Please participate to learn more about what is being proposed for your neighborhood located between the 91 Freeway and 120th Street, including proposed designated Character Districts for the Merit Tract, Orchard Avenue (between Gardena Blvd. and Alondra Blvd.), and Athens on the Hill, overlay protections for Gardena Blvd., and various proposed changes for commercial corners and industrial parcels.
The Department of City Planning updates Community Plans periodically to ensure that the land in each community is able to accommodate future generations of people and jobs in a way that is aligned with environmental, land use and development goals for the region.
Community Plans establish goals and policies to guide future land use and development within each Community Plan Area. Plan maps shape the environment around us by designating uses for land, such as parks, housing, jobs, or manufacturing.
It is important to keep the Plans up to date because they:
- Inform developers and residents of the type of development that will be permitted;
- Help accommodate anticipated jobs, housing, and population;
- Guide the approval process of new development that is consistent with the community’s vision.
